Rippowam Middle School

International Baccalaureate

Parents and Community:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Rippowam Middle School - International Baccalaureate World School.  How quickly it came! It is time to get back into the early morning routines and structure of school J.  Speaking of structure, we have some exciting changes to announce.  One might think the summer is a moment for educators to relax, but on the contrary the awesome staff of Rippowam have been hard at work rethinking, and redesigning. It’s all about student choice and student voice at #RippIB for the 2016-2017 school-year.

Maintaining the status quo is not the Rippowam way.  So this year we have shifted from a six period day to an eight period day (Start and end times are the same).  By increasing the number of periods, we increase the number of offerings for our students.  Additionally, we will incorporate choice time adjacent to the lunch block which will provide students with open time to explore interest based options.  These opportunities will include coding, chess, recess, weight room, creative writing, silent reading, maker space, and academic support to name a few.

As always your thoughts and ideas are welcome as we continue to develop our program throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me directly via phone or email.

Below are important dates and information regarding the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.

  • 6th Grade Orientation will be held on Wednesday, August 31st (7:25am – 9:25am) Rippowam Auditorium.  Buses will be provided.
  • 1st official day for all students begins on September 1st and will be an “A” day.  All students should report to their homeroom classes at 7:25am.

For students arriving before 7:25am please report to the following locations:

  • Grade 6 Gymnasium
  • Grade 7 Main Cafe
  • Grade 8 Cyber Cafe

The school day starts promptly at 7:25am and ends at 2pm.  Students cannot be dropped off outside of the building after 7:30am. If your child shows up to school after 7:30am they need to be signed in by an adult in the main office.  We strongly urge all students to be in the building by 7:20am to have time to gather belongings, eat breakfast (if desired) and arrive to class prior to the 7:25am late bell.

Schedules, handbooks, and agendas, will be handed out in your child’s homeroom classes.  Syllabi and class specific information will be handed out in each class.  Parents – It’s important that you review all materials that come home to know how to best support your child.   If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s guidance counselor or the main office.

As a final thought, please join us on twitter @PrincRipp to keep apprised of Rippowam news, updates and announcements.

Kind Regards,

Jason Martin
